Yang Enhua
Ebenezer Musician in Residence, Dishi Nanyin Narrative Singer, Promoter of Inclusive Chinese Chess
Born in Heilongjiang in northeast China, Enhua Yang moved to Hong Kong in 2014 where he began his secondary education at the Ebenezer School and Man Kiu College under the Ebenezer Resource Support Programme. Currently, he is studying at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Erhu. He is Musician in Residence - Ebenezer (erhu), Lee Hysan Foundation Scholar, inheritor of Dishi Nanyin and promoter of inclusive Chinese chess. He has been diligently studying and playing the erhu since the age of 12. He has been taught by Zhao Yijun, Gan Bolin, Li Aping, Peng Cheng, Cao Tianli, Yang Xue, Yu Qiwei, Chen Jiebing, Ru Yi and other teachers. He is currently studying with Ms. Mao Qinghua, the Hugin Co-principal of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.

Yang has demonstrated extraordinary talent in various public competitions. Recently, he has been selected as one of the Top 10 award winners at the prestigious 6th Danny Awards. This competition is highly competitive, drawing submissions from across the globe and judged by a panel of esteemed music industry professionals. Commented from the judging panel, "Enhua's captivating performance of The Cat and the Mouse', a contemporary piece by Chinese composer Cao Tianli ( aF) earned his international recognition." His expressive and technically masterful playing brought the piece to life, highlighting the Erhu's emotional depth and cultural richness. His performance stood out for its originality and artistry, earning high praise from the judging panel. Finalists are invited to perform live in New York and receive mentorship and international network.

Other remarkable achievements: In 2015, Yang has been awarded the gold medal in the 5th International Chinese Instrument Competition (Youth Division) and the Most Outstanding Performer Award (Children and Youth) in "Cross All Borders: Hong Kong Festival Showcasing New Performing Artists with Disabilities 2015". He has been awarded the Champion in the 70th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Erhu Solo (Advanced Division) in 2018. Yang is the recipient of the prestigious VSA International Young Soloists Award Winners, an honor he earned in 2022. As a winner, Yang delivered a heartwarming and impressive performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. In July 2025, Yang won the Silver Award in the 7th Singapore International Solo and Ensemble Competition (Chinese Musical Instruments Professional Group).

Since 2020, he has been serving as a Hong Kong Community Cultural Ambassador, touring with the Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble across Hong Kong. In 2022, he was invited by No Limits to hold his first solo concert during Hong Kong Arts Festival, showcasing his musical talent and artistic aspirations. From March 2024 onwards, he has been invited for a concert tour in China with first stop at Guangzhou Opera House and his solo recital, presented by Ebenezer, in Shanghai in November 2024. In 2025, he was invited by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office to perform in New York and Washington, D.C. He has collaborated with multiple musical ensembles, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Enharmonica, Hong Kong Youth Orchestra, True Colors Symphony, etc., and has participated in cultural exchanges in countries such as the United States, Germany, France, South Korea and Japan.

In addition to his outstanding progress in music, Yang has actively explored various art forms, such as stand-up comedy, musical and drama in recent years, showcasing his diversity and creativity across different artistic expressions.

Yang endeavours to teach and compose. Through his mastery of the erhu, Yang excels at sharing his personal experiences and desires to spread the wonders of Chinese culture all over the world. Guided by the philosophy of "inheriting and innovating, promoting Chinese music", Yang aims to create an inclusive art platform where people with different abilities can show their strengths. He aspires to further integrate music into his life, by combining the conception of 'blindness' and 'music', to create works of his own style.
