Assistive technology helps visually impaired individuals increase their access to the curriculum or job and improves their performance. This talk is to arouse visually impaired students’ interest in using accessibility software tools for their enhancement on exploring music with different perspectives. Master Kim will also share his story for developing Berklee Assistive Music Technology Lab and his efforts in improving the accessibility of music software tools. Two alumni from Ebenezer School, Mr Samuel Ng and Ms Eil Tang, will also share their thoughts and aspirations in using the assistive music technology tools nowadays.

Speaker:
Chi Gook Kim
As an internationally recognised expert in assistive music technology, Chi Gook Kim is the Associate Professor of Music Therapy at Berklee College of Music. He founded the assistive music technology (AMT) programme and continuously works on enhancing the music software’s accessibility, including Sibelius - a major notation software, for visually impaired users. He created Flo Tools, an open-source project that dramatically enhances the workflow for screen reader users to use Pro Tools, the industry standard for audio production software.

Professor Kim received a B.M. in song-writing and contemporary writing
& production from Berklee, and a M.M. in music technology from New York University.
